Toica IC Card
In Shizuoka, where Port of Shimizu is located, you can purchase a transportation IC card called Toica. It can be used on JR trains, Shizutetsu Railway trains , Shizutetsu Justline Buses and even at convenience stores and some shops for cashless payment.
About Purchasing a Toica Card
Toica is a rechargeable IC card that can be used on trains, buses, and at some shops.
- Price: ¥2,000
(Includes a ¥500 deposit and ¥1,500 usable balance) - Payment method: Cash only
- The ¥500 deposit will be refunded when you return the card.
You can purchase a Toica card from Ticket vending machines displaying the Toica logo or JR 東海(Central Japan Railway Company) ticket offices at JR Shimizu Station and JR Shizuoka Station.

- Select ¥2,000
- Your card will be issued
*If you prefer face-to-face assistance instead of using a ticket machine, using a ticket office is recommended.
There is one ticket office near the ticket gates at both JR Shimizu Station and JR Shizuoka Station.
How to Top Up Your IC Card with Cash
*TOICA cards can only be topped up with cash. Credit cards and other cashless payment methods cannot be used.
- Touch ENGLISH button on the screen
- Insert your IC card into the ticket machine
- Touch Recharge to IC Card
- Select the amount you want to add
If you lose your IC card, the remaining balance and deposit cannot be refunded. Because of this, it is not recommended to load a large amount of money onto the card.
How to Get a Refund for a Toica Card
Refunds for Toica cards are available at the ticket offices of Shimizu Station and Shizuoka Station.
You will receive the remaining balance on the card minus a ¥220 refund handling fee, plus the ¥500 deposit. If the remaining balance is ¥220 or less, only the ¥500 deposit will be refunded.
*You can check your card balance and usage history at JR ticket machines.

If you are traveling and staying in several places around Japan, it can be used on IC card-compatible trains, buses, and at participating stores.
Welcome Suica Mobile cards issued through the app are valid for 180 days from the date they are created.
