Nihondaira is said to have been named after the legendary prince Yamato Takeru<\/span>. According to tradition, during his eastern expedition, he defeated enemies who had trapped him in a grass fire on the Kusanagi Plain. He then climbed this hill and admired the surrounding landscape, giving rise to the name Nihondaira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Nihondaira is a scenic hill standing 307 meters<\/span> above sea level. It has been selected as one of Japan\u2019s Top 100 Tourist Destinations <\/span>and is designated as both a National Place of Scenic Beauty and a Prefectural Natural Park.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
